Change (One-A-Day 120/365)

Dammit I don’t like change. I’m not even on about the coins kind of change either! I hate it when shops change, streets change, one way systems – you name it I probably hate it! Not quite sure why but never mind.

Recently an old pub in town shut down for a refurb and I was pretty annoyed – I liked it! Pool tables, a Jukebox with a crappy selection of songs but just enough metal to piss people off, a paint scheme that looked like an art student had barfed on the wall and an odd combination of carpets/lino flooring that always seemed sticky. Hmmm maybe it wasn’t that good. It was always a good place to start a night out though.

It was shut for about a fortnight (may have been less!) but has finally reopend it’s doors and dare I say it’s actually quite nice….the jukebox is gone from what I can see but they have some good songs on anyway (although a bit loud imo) and everything looks a whole heap better. Still smells a bit too new though and the super comfy couch has gone :(

Biggest downside by miles is the loss of the pool tables – other than the leisure centre on the edge of town nowhere else has any pool/snooker tables to play on. Bit of a shame but the tables were in a pretty bad way.

Finally of course the place has a new name – before it’s refit it was called ‘The Raisin’ and was a Firkin Brewery/Scream branded place. now it’s gone a bit posher, still doesn’t serve Long Island Ice Tea(!) and has a name with some historical meaning.

It’s name is now ‘The Blue Stane’. The historical context is given on the back of the whisky list which is a nice read actually. I couldn’t get a photo as my phone is still away getting repaired but I did manage to find this page roughly describing the name.

I’ll be going back soon for a decent drink when I get a day off work I reckon. Maybe change isn’t all that bad?
