I was going to write about the farce that is the F1 UK television coverage deal today but I’m still too angry about it to write rationally and I still want to speak to a few of my friends for further opinions before I put something in writing.
Instead I shall just tell you about dinner which as you can see from the title was Beer Can Chicken! I’ve seen numerous people talking about it and posting pictures on the internet and of course a few cooking shows have done this too.
I should say this nearly didn’t happen today since to begin with dinner was supposed to be bacon chops from the freezer which was rejected in favour of roast pork. On going to the shops they didn’t have any pork joints and we were too lazy to go elsewhere – chicken it is then
Instead of just simply roasting the chicken in the traditional fashion I suggested the aforementioned Beer Can variant which was accepted by the parents. The worst part of this of course was having to drink extra beer which I don’t really like – luckily my dad does though!
Once the can was empty we chopped a few herbs (parsley, sage) and chucked in some garlic too. The can was half way refilled with beer and then the chicken got a nice comfy seat which it seems I never got a picture of which I’m a little annoyed at.
Next up a little coating for the skin of the chicken with paprika, chilli powder and olive oil making a nice rub which was spread all over and especially under the wings and around the legs. Finally an onion was stuffed into the skin around the neck to make sure we trapped as much of the steam in the chicken as possible!
Transferring this marvellous concoction to the oven was slightly scary as the chicken seemed ready to topple over at any minute but everything went just fine! Left alone in a 230 degree celcius oven for 1 hour and it was cooked and smelled wonderful. The best bot of course was the nice and crispy skin which was just lovely and tasty!
After that the vegetables were finished off and the chicken carved and the meal served. The meat was superb and very, very moist and tender! I’ll be telling anyone that wants to listen about this and probably several people who don’t. Next time I think more herbs are in order and possibly some use of reggae reggae sauce will go down well!
