Horrible pun for a title? Check!
Horrible day at work? You bet!
As usual the problems really started at 8.30am with the bloody alarm going off – being awesome and all that I ignored it and went back to sleep. Finally got up just after 9, shower, dress and grab some cereal since I really couldn’t be bothered cooking this morning. I even managed to watch some of the F1 qualifying before I left for work!
On arriving at work things immediately took a turn for the worse – there were some staff in the foyer speaking to customers about some things in the store not being available to which I queried as well. I was told to take a look to my right on the way in and I would see. What I saw was not good. I went to clock in.
As I was ready to start work a friend of mine told me that only 4 tills were open which surprised me for a Saturday. I headed down to the tills to be greeted with most of the tills cordoned off and a lot of big plastic bins on wheels under a ceiling panel that was chucking out water at a daft rate!
Sometime during the night a pipe had burst and the current state of affairs was that all but a handful of tills had so much water in them we couldn’t use them! In addition to this the water was getting turned off which meant no Butchers, Deli, Fish or Pie Shop counters could operate!
Absolutely manic day but for once we had more than enough staff to run the checkouts which made a nice change. After a while this evened out a bit as some tills were declared fit to use but of course being a Saturday things just got busier and busier!
We made it through the day though but there was a lot of additional problems created by the water leak as well. Till rolls and wine carriers were a major victim with the water doing its very best to soak through as many as possible before we realised the extent of the damage!
Was quite a stressful day which wasn’t aided by my back hurting badly and some part of my foot aching something awful!
It can only get better right?
